They say that an apple a day keeps the doctor at bay and, while that might be expecting rather a lot of the humble Cox's Orange Pippin, it is universally accepted that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables can prevent a whole range of serious diseases and life threatening health conditions. Recent studies of communities around the world with high average life expectancy and/or an abnormally high number of centenarians have even concluded that a link exists between longevity and a plant-based diet. And, never before have we enjoyed such a vast variety of different fruits and vegetables, making it easier than ever to put away our five-a-day.
