Realistic globe artichoke charm or pendant. A member of the thistle family, the globe artichoke was introduced to England by the Dutch during Henry VIII's reign and were grown in his Newhall garden in 1530. It wasn't until the 19th Century that they reached the shores of the United States, imported into Louisiana and California by French and Spanish immigrants. The edible portion of the plant are its buds, before the flowers bloom and, steamed, roasted or grilled, they are a delicious delicacy, full of nutrients and high in fibre.
